Maison Joseph Drouhin owns several individual premier cru parcels within Chambolle-Musigny, including Les Noirots, Hauts Doix, Les Borniques, Les Plantes, and Les Combottes, each too small to bottle on its own. Rather than let these fine sites go unrecognized, the house harvests and vinifies them together, labeling the result simply Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru. The blend leans heavily on Drouhin's own vines, supplemented by fruit purchased from growers under the house's usual strict specifications, continuing the balance of tradition and precision that has defined Drouhin's winemaking since 1880.

The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted, then fermented and macerated for two to three weeks in small open vats, with punch-downs, pump-overs, and indigenous yeasts drawing out color and structure. The proportion of whole clusters varies by vintage, and the finished wine ages fourteen to eighteen months in French oak, with about a fifth new wood.

The 2020 opens with a fragrant nose of sour cherry and florals, carrying serious tannin structure beneath a velvety texture. Raspberry and spice notes join the cherry fruit, with bright acidity and a long, saline finish that closes with real energy.

91-93 Points
" The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of cherries, raspberries, smoke and spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and seamless, with powdery tannins, bright acids and a long, saline finish, it's always a fine cuvée chez Drouhin."
