2020 Siro Pacenti - Brunello di Montalcino Pelagrilli (750ml)
Siro Pacenti's 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Pelagrilli comes from the Pelagrilli vineyard, the original estate site north of Montalcino purchased by Siro Pacenti in 1970 and now farmed by his son Giancarlo, one of the most closely watched winemakers in the region. The vines sit in the cooler, higher-altitude northern sector of Montalcino, in a mix of clay and galestro soils that lend both structure and finesse to the finished wine.
Made from 100% Sangiovese, the grapes are hand harvested and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel before the wine spends time aging in French oak, a stylistic signature of the estate, followed by a period of bottle rest prior to release.
In the glass, this Brunello shows a deep ruby to garnet hue. The bouquet is layered with black cherry, plum, and wild strawberry, joined by rose petal, warm spice, tobacco, and a touch of forest floor and crushed stone. The palate is medium to full bodied, with precise acidity, polished tannins, and a long, refined finish.
Well suited to bistecca alla Fiorentina, roasted game, mushroom risotto, or aged pecorino, this wine rewards patience and has real aging potential, though it also drinks beautifully with proper decanting in its youth.
