Siro Pacenti was founded in 1971 in Montalcino, but its modern story began in 1988, when Siro's son Giancarlo committed himself fully to the family estate. A visit to Bordeaux in the early 1990s shaped his understanding of terroir, and his Sangiovese has since become known for richness balanced by structure. Vecchie Vigne is the estate's tribute to its oldest plantings.

This 100% Sangiovese blends two historic sites. Half comes from the oldest Pelagrilli parcels, planted by Siro himself in 1970, where sandy soils meet cool western winds. The rest comes from Piancornello parcels planted in the 1960s by Giancarlo's maternal grandfather, on gravelly soils over hard rock with warm southern exposure. Fruit is sorted by optical sorter and by hand, fermented in steel, then aged 24 months in French barriques, two months in concrete, and 22 months in bottle.

Baked cherries, lavender, and black and purple fruit meet Mediterranean herbs, balsamic notes, and a touch of cardamom. The palate is full-bodied and velvety, with a bright spine of acidity and chalky, structured tannins. Still youthful and tightly wound, it will reward patience in the cellar.

95 Points
"Made with fruit from the estate's oldest vines and aged in French barrique, the Siro Pacenti 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Vecchie Vigne has a spicy note with cardamom or cinnamon over a bold bouquet that is darkly enriched with all kinds of black and purple fruits. You get a hint of eucalyptus or rosemary that underlines a medicinal side to this wine. To the palate, this vintage is slightly more accessible for sure, but the house style prizes concentration and bold tannic structure that will give you runway for aging. There is a hint of dustiness or chalkiness on the tannins. This is a 16,000-bottle release."
