Domaine Michèle et Patrice Rion is based in Premeaux-Prissey, a small, seven-hectare estate Patrice founded in 2000 after leaving his father's domaine, Daniel Rion et Fils, where he had been winemaker. His son Maxime joined in 2005 and has been fully at the helm since 2015, farming the vines biodynamically. Still under the radar, the domaine has built a quiet reputation for precision across its Chambolle, Vosne, and Nuits-Saint-Georges cuvées.

This village Vosne-Romanée is assembled from Rion's own biodynamically farmed parcels alongside a small proportion of négociant fruit. The 2022 harvest began in early September under healthy conditions after well-timed rain kept the vines comfortable through summer, with yields settling around thirty-five hectoliters per hectare. Most cuvées carry some portion of whole clusters, fermented without added sulfur, before aging in barrel to preserve the wine's freshness and finesse.

The nose is deep and forward, a lovely mix of floral lift and ripe fruit. On the palate the wine is more structural than most village Vosne, with real depth beneath the classic Vosne perfume. Give it a couple of years to unwind, then pour it with roast duck, braised veal, or a mild, creamy cheese.

89-91 Points
"The 2022 Vosne-Romanée Village includes around 40% whole bunches

and delivers crisp black fruit laced with graphite and green bell pepper.

The palate is medium-bodied with a charcoal-tinged entry. The oak and

whole bunches are more prominent in this cuvée and detract from the

precision on the finish. Fine.
