2022 Dugat-Py - Bourgogne Rouge Halinard (750ml)
Domaine Dugat-Py traces its winemaking in Gevrey-Chambertin back centuries, though the modern estate took shape when Bernard Dugat acquired his first parcel in 1973 at just fifteen years old. He built the domaine steadily through further purchases, particularly in Charmes-Chambertin and Mazis-Chambertin, and today his son Loïc represents the thirteenth generation. The Revue du Vin de France ranks Dugat-Py in its top three-star category alongside DRC, Roumier, Rousseau, and Leroy.
This Bourgogne Rouge comes from vines in Gevrey-Chambertin that the domaine voluntarily declassifies from village status, ranging from twenty-five to seventy-five years old and certified organic since 2003. The old-vine component gives the wine noticeably more richness and substance than a typical regional bottling. Fruit is hand harvested and vinified with the domaine's usual attention to detail, then aged twelve to eighteen months in oak barrels, about ten percent new.
The wine offers spicy, peppery, and sappy aromas over a cool, focused core of dark berries, with hints of cranberry and wet earth. The palate is dense and structured for a Bourgogne, with real substance and length from the old vines. Approachable young, it also has years ahead, pairing well with braised lamb, duck confit, or a firm aged cheese.
