2022 Neirano - Barolo (750ml)

Tenute Neirano is owned by the Sperone family, whose winemaking history began in 1911 when Antonio Sperone started producing wine near Casalotto di Mombaruzzo, in the Monferrato area of Piedmont. Today the estate is run by Paolo and Antonio Sperone, with fourth-generation family members Francesca and Andrea now involved as well. Across 30 hectares of owned vineyards, the family combines traditional methods with modern technology and has earned recognition from Decanter, the International Wine Challenge, and other major competitions.

This Barolo is produced entirely from Nebbiolo grown in the hills surrounding the town of Barolo, one of Piedmont's most storied appellations for the variety. Following classic fermentation with regular pump-overs of the must, the wine spends an extended period aging in large oak botti before further rest in bottle, a traditional approach meant to soften the tannins and allow the wine to fully develop before release. The 2022 vintage carries an alcohol level around 14%.

The wine shows notes of licorice, red cherry, red currant, and mint, with a medium body carrying firm, chalky tannins and crisp acidity. Older vintages of this Barolo have also displayed classic aromas of rose, violet, and tar, with a rich, velvety texture that rewards further cellaring.
