2022 P.-Y. Colin-Morey - Monthelie Les Riottes Rouge (750ml)
Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is the eldest son of the respected Chassagne-Montrachet producer Marc Colin, and worked as winemaker at his father's domaine from 1994 to 2005 before founding his own house from inherited family vineyards. Though best known for mineral-driven whites made in large demi-muid barrels without bâtonnage, he has increasingly turned his attention to small-lot reds from villages such as Monthelie.
La Riotte is a small premier cru vineyard on limestone and clay soils in Monthelie, a village tucked between Volnay and Meursault that often flies under the radar. The wine is fermented with around thirty percent whole clusters and handled with the same gentle care PYCM applies to his whites, aiming to highlight freshness and finesse over power, a hallmark of PYCM's quietly understated house style.
The wine shows wild strawberry and raspberry, with violet, subtle spice, and an earthy undertone. Fresh and vibrant, it has a silky texture, fine integrated tannins, and a touch of minerality on the long finish. It pairs nicely with grilled duck sausages, roast pork loin, or fresh chèvre.
