2023 Simon Colin - Bourgogne Blanc (750ml)

Simon Colin is one of the newer names to watch in Chassagne-Montrachet, having launched his own domaine in 2017 and released his first vintage under his own label in 2021. The son of Philippe Colin and nephew of Bruno Colin, he trained for four years alongside Benoît Riffault at Domaine Etienne Sauzet before striking out on his own with just over nine hectares. His holdings now stretch across Chassagne-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin, Santenay, and Maranges, and the estate is currently transitioning to organic farming.

This Bourgogne Blanc draws on roughly 1.2 hectares of vines planted around the winery. Simon vinifies and ages the wine across a mix of vessels, including small pièces, larger barrels, and a concrete egg, with about twenty percent new oak in the blend. The 2023 growing season in Burgundy produced ripe, generous whites with enough natural acidity to keep them from feeling heavy, and this cuvée shows that balance clearly.

The nose offers apple, pear, and floral notes alongside hints of yellow plum and nectarine. The palate is smooth and full, with a touch of tropical fruit and a spicy, ginger-like lift on the finish.
