Domaine Yvon Clerget is one of Burgundy's oldest estates, with roots tracing back to 1268. Based in the village of Volnay, the domaine is now guided by Thibault Clerget, who tends a small but far-reaching collection of parcels across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Production remains tiny throughout the range, and Thibault has experimented with unconventional aging vessels alongside traditional barrels, a curiosity that led to the creation of the Cuvée Félix.

This bottling comes from the domaine's holding in Clos de Vougeot, the largest and among the most storied grand crus of the Côte de Nuits, within the lieu-dit Les Grands Maupertuis. Rather than resting in oak, Cuvée Félix is aged separately in a glass globe, a more inert vessel that limits oxygen exchange during élevage. Fermentation follows native yeasts with a portion of whole clusters, echoing the practice used across the domaine's other Clos de Vougeot cuvées.

The nose is moderately reduced at first, opening to dark raspberry, rose petal, and a whisper of licorice and spice. The palate is sleek and finely detailed, with real tension, closing on an austere, mineral finish. Pair it with grilled quail, herb-crusted veal, or a washed-rind cheese.

91-94 Points
"The more inert nature of the holding container is in evidence as the nose is moderately reduced. The other side of that though is that the mouthfeel is even sleeker and finer with excellent underlying tension and detail to the similarly scaled flavors that conclude in a finish that isn't as rich or complex but it's a bit more austere."
