2022 Yvon Clerget - Volnay Angles (750ml)

Domaine Yvon Clerget, founded in Volnay in 1268, is now led by Thibaud Clerget, the twenty-eighth generation of his family to farm the estate since he revived it in 2015. In 2022, Thibaud partnered with fellow vigneron Arnaud Baillot to take over the seven hectares of Domaine Régis Rossignol-Changarnier, bringing several new premier cru parcels into the Clerget fold, including Clos des Angles, and expanding total holdings to roughly ten and a half hectares across Volnay, Pommard, and Meursault.

Clos des Angles sits between the villages of Volnay and Pommard. The 2022 growing season delivered perfectly ripe, small, loose-clustered, healthy fruit, and Thibaud chose to vinify the grapes with fifty percent whole clusters and no barrel at all, aging the wine entirely in large glass globes to protect the exuberant fruit character, making it the domaine's first cuvée matured this way from start to finish.

The result is pale, fresh ruby in color, with a racy, fragrant, herbaceous nose. The palate is graceful, with lively acidity and a leaner, more energetic style than Clerget's oak-aged wines, though no less charming.
