2023 Benjamin Leroux - Meursault Vireuils (750ml)

Antonio Galloni has called Benjamin Leroux "quiet and unassuming, but his wines more than speak for themselves," and Les Vireuils is often cited as one of the clearest proofs of that reputation. Leroux has worked this same parcel since 2002, first while running the cellar at Domaine du Comte Armand and then continuing under his own label after founding it in 2007, making it one of the longest relationships in his growing portfolio of Côte d'Or sites.

Vireuils Dessus sits above the well-known Les Chevalières and Rougeots lieux-dits, one of the higher and cooler pockets of Meursault. Leroux farms 0.77 hectares here across three parcels of vines around forty-five years old, planted on thin, rocky limestone and flint soils locally described as "terres blanches." The grapes are picked later than the village blend and aged in older 300-liter barrels with only a small portion of new oak.

The wine shows lemon zest, white flowers, and a whisper of wet stone, with a bright, creamy texture and lively acidity carrying through to a long finish. Serve with grilled turbot, veal scaloppine, or a nutty aged cheese.
