2023 Benjamin Leroux - Savigny Les Beaune Les Vergelesses (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]

Benjamin Leroux began his winemaking career at just fifteen and has been anointed by Burghound as a "spiritual heir to Henri Jayer," earning the respect of peers like Anne-Claude Leflaive, Dominique Lafon, and Pierre Morey along the way. He launched his own label in 2007 and committed to it full time in 2014, building relationships with predominantly organic growers across the Côte d'Or that let him steer farming decisions and set harvest dates for optimal ripeness, all while favoring large wooden casks, minimal new oak, and site-specific whole-bunch inclusion in the cellar.

Les Vergelesses is Leroux's self-described favorite among Savigny's premier crus, planted in the 1980s on a south-facing, low to mid-slope site of sandy marl threaded with iron-rich oolites. Roughly a third of the fruit was fermented as whole bunches in 2023, and the added clay in this parcel's soil gives the wine more structure than its village-level counterparts, even as it remains approachable young.

The bouquet is elegant, with fresh black cherry and wild strawberry over floral notes. The palate is medium bodied and sapid, well balanced and refined, with a long, pure finish. Pair it with grilled duck breast, roasted chicken, or a young Époisses.
