2023 Cambria - Pinot Noir Julia's Vineyard Santa Maria Valley HALF BOTTLE (375ml)

Julia's Vineyard has been farmed since the 1970s and is approaching its fiftieth harvest, making it one of the more established single-vineyard sites in Santa Maria Valley. Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke purchased Cambria Estate Winery in 1986, and two years later named this particular parcel after their daughter, Julia Jackson, who now serves as the estate's proprietor. That family connection still shapes the wine today, with Julia's own sensibility guiding the style toward coastal elegance rather than sheer power.

Santa Maria Valley runs unusually east to west, a rare orientation among California's coastal valleys that lets cool Pacific air funnel directly inland through the growing season. That steady marine influence, combined with ancient marine soils laced with fossilized seashell fragments, gives this 100 percent Pinot Noir its distinctive combination of ripe fruit and mineral edge. Grapes are farmed sustainably and vinified to preserve that sense of place rather than smoothing it over with heavy handling.

The glass shows bright red fruit up front, pomegranate, dried cranberry, and black cherry, layered with cinnamon, sage, and clove. The palate carries balanced tannins and a touch of dusty earthiness through a long, structured finish. Serve it with roast chicken, braised lamb, or a mild cheese board.
