A small, under-the-radar Meursault estate with deep family roots. The Jobards are one of the village’s great names, and this branch descends from Emile Jobard (great-uncle of Antoine and Rémi), who married into the Morey family and planted many of the estate’s vines in the years after the Second World War. Today his grandson Valentin Jobard runs the 5.5-hectare domaine, after training with Vincent Dureuil-Janthial and Bernard Bouvier. His Charmes comes from a tiny 0.33-hectare parcel in Charmes Dessus, the upper part of the cru next to Perrières and Genevrières, with old vines (around 65 years) on stony clay-limestone.

Valentin still uses an old-school Vaslin press, which keeps more lees and gives the wines extra richness while they stay taut and fresh. Expect ripe pear, citrus, white flowers and toasted almond with a hint of spice, then a broad, silky palate with real minerality and a long, persistent finish. Powerful without being heavy, and built to age 15 years or more. Pair with lobster, turbot in beurre blanc, roast chicken or Comté.

93 Points
"The 2023 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes is also quite textural and gourmand this year, offering up notes of peach, orange blossom and nutmeg, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny palate that's fleshy and enveloping."
