2023 Domaine Faiveley - Mercurey Le Clos du Roy (750ml)

Domaine Faiveley has been rooted in Burgundy since 1825, and across seven generations the family has built one of the region's largest and most respected estates, with holdings spanning from Chablis down through the Côte de Nuits to the Côte Chalonnaise. Erwan Faiveley took over as president in 2005, later joined by his sister Eve in 2014, continuing a tradition built on close attention to each individual site rather than a single house style.

Clos du Roy is a walled parcel that once belonged to the Kings of France before the Faiveley family acquired it in 1971. Widely regarded as one of Mercurey's finest premier cru sites, the vineyard's 2.54 hectares, planted in 1971 and 1982, sit on clay-limestone and white marl soils with south and southwest exposure, farmed organically. The wine ages fifteen months in French oak, about thirty percent of it new, giving it a structure often compared to a Côte de Nuits village wine.

Red cherry, cranberry, and wild strawberry mingle with rose petal, crushed herbs, and a distinct stony minerality. The palate is medium-bodied, with firm, chalky tannins and bright acidity. Pair it with roast pork loin, grilled sausages, or a young Cantal.
