2024 BloodRoot - Pinot Noir Sonoma County (750ml)
BloodRoot is a California winemaking collaboration led by Noah and Kelly Dorrance of Reeve Wines, built around a simple goal: source fruit from serious vineyard sites and turn it into Pinot Noir that overdelivers on value. Rather than working from a single estate, the project pulls together relationships built over years in Sonoma County, favoring growers who farm sustainably and pick with restraint. The wines lean toward a low intervention style, letting site and vintage speak with minimal winemaking interference along the way.
This 2024 bottling draws fruit from vineyards across Sonoma County planted largely on Goldridge sandy loam and clay soils, prized for the lift and precision they bring to Pinot Noir. Grapes were fermented in small two ton lots with a portion of whole clusters included for added spice and structure, then pressed in a traditional Coquard basket press. The wine was aged in French oak, only a small percentage new, so the fruit and site character stay front and center rather than being covered by heavy toast.
The glass shows a savory core of black cherry framed by strawberry and raspberry, with lightly peppery tannin and a thread of savory herbs running underneath. Acidity stays bright throughout, and the finish is clean with barely a whisper of oak. Pour it with roast duck breast, grilled quail, or a charcuterie spread.
