2024 Casa Lapostolle - Cabernet Sauvignon Rapel Valley Grand Selection (750ml)
Lapostolle was founded in 1994 by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet, after they discovered a unique clos in Chile's Apalta Valley with 100-year-old pre-phylloxera vines. Alexandra brought generations of French winemaking tradition to the Colchagua Valley, with a family heritage dating back to 1827 and the Grand Marnier liqueur. The Grand Selection tier aims to capture the freshness of young, expressive fruit.
This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Colchagua Valley, part of Chile's Rapel Valley, a semi-arid Mediterranean region where rain falls only in winter. Warm, dry days and cool nights, helped by breezes from the Andes, allow slow ripening. Grapes are harvested by hand in March and April, then fermented in stainless steel at 24 to 28°C with gentle extraction and up to four weeks on the skins. Part of the wine is aged in used French oak barrels while the rest stays in stainless steel, preserving bright fruit.
Purple-red with dark red edges, the wine offers ripe red fruit aromas of berries and plums, with a spicy hint of herbs and oak. The palate is concentrated and round, with flavors of red fruit, strawberry, and blackberry, medium acidity, and juicy tannins that lead to a plum-tinged finish.
