2024 Chateau Thivin - Cote de Brouilly (750ml)
The benchmark of the appellation. Thivin is the oldest estate on Mont Brouilly, an ancient volcano rising out of southern Beaujolais, with a cellar dating to 1383. Zaccharie Geoffray bought the property at auction in 1877, and his family went on to help create the Côte de Brouilly appellation in the 1930s. Six generations later, Claude-Edouard Geoffray farms organically on the mountain’s famous blue volcanic stone, which gives this Gamay real structure and a mineral spine.
The 2024 shows an elegant, floral bouquet of redcurrant and raspberry, with wild fruit, spice and crunchy minerality on the palate. Charming now, but serious enough to age for several years. This bottling is made exclusively for the US by Kermit Lynch, from the same estate vineyards as Thivin’s French release. Pair with chicken liver terrine, duck breast, roast chicken or goat cheese.
