2024 Domaine Fevre - Chablis Montmains (750ml) (PRE ARRIVAL)
At Domaine William Fèvre, Montmains has long been one of winemaker Didier Séguier's favorite cuvées precisely because it isn't a single-vineyard wine but a considered blend. The Premier Cru designation actually spans three neighboring climats, Butteaux, Forêts, and Montmains proper, and Séguier draws tension and minerality from Butteaux, fruit from Forêts, and richness and weight from Montmains itself, assembling the three into a wine more complete than any one site alone.
The domaine farms roughly 3.7 hectares spread across ten plots in all three sub-climats, on the notably stony, deep-clay soils that define this stretch of Chablis's left bank. The south-east-facing site is frost-prone, and 2024 brought hail losses on top of that risk, cutting yields to just seventeen hectoliters per hectare. The 2024 blend leans slightly toward Butteaux, with Forêts and Montmains proper making up the balance in equal measure.
Cool, airy aromas of white flower, ocean breeze, algae, and shellfish announce this wine unmistakably as Chablis. The palate is sleek yet solidly powerful, with a beguiling texture and an almost aggressive minerality on the finish. It rewards patience. Pair it with seafood stew, roast quail, or a young Brillat-Savarin.
