2024 Envinate - Listan Prieto Tenerife Benje (750ml)
Envínate Benje Tinto 2024 comes from the volcanic slopes of Santiago del Teide on the western edge of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, within the DO Ycoden Daute Isora. The wine is crafted by the four-winemaker collective behind Envínate, known for old-fashioned, minimal intervention farming across Spain's most singular terroirs.
The fruit is sourced primarily from Listán Prieto, also known as País or Mission grape, drawn from untrained, ungrafted pie franco vines ranging from 70 to 120 years old. These ancient parcels grow at elevations between 900 and 1,200 meters, worked entirely by hand with no chemical inputs, a style of viticulture that has remained largely unchanged for generations. A small portion of Listán Blanco and Tintilla rounds out the blend, adding lift and complexity.
In the winery, whole clusters undergo cold maceration before fermenting with native yeasts, followed by aging in neutral French oak barrels and concrete for several months. The result is a translucent, cherry-hued red with a nose of wild strawberry, dried rose petal, black pepper, and a distinct mineral, wet basalt character tied to its volcanic origin. On the palate, it is medium bodied, juicy, and energetic, with fine tannins and bright acidity carrying a long, savory finish.
This is a versatile red suited to lamb, grilled vegetables, or charcuterie, and it drinks well with light chilling.
