2024 Francois Carillon - Puligny Montrachet (750ml) [PRE ARRIVAL]
Domaine François Carillon sits in the very center of Puligny-Montrachet, a fitting home for a family that has grown grapes in the village for nearly five centuries. François founded the estate in 2010 after splitting the family vineyards with his brother, Jacques, and has since built a reputation for wines that balance pristine fruit with real precision. His sons, Mathis and Paul, have now joined him full time, and given the estate's modest scale, most of what they produce ends up on the lists of the world's finest restaurants rather than retail shelves.
This village-level Puligny-Montrachet is assembled from nine separate lieux-dits scattered across the appellation, a blend meant to capture a broad cross-section of the village's terroir rather than any single site's character. The 2024 was picked earlier than usual, hand-harvested and pressed quickly before a patient fermentation and aging in barrel that lets the wine take its time coming together.
True to that patience, the 2024 needs a little time in the glass to open, gradually revealing fresh lime, grass clippings, and a touch of peach skin. The palate is well balanced with real weight, fresh and tensile, with a dab of spice on the finish. Pair it with veal Milanese, poached langoustine tails, or Fourme d'Ambert.
