Domaine Marc Colin, founded in Saint-Aubin in 1970 by Marc and Michèle Colin, is known first for its white wines, but the estate's red Burgundies have quietly earned a following of their own. Today the domaine is run by three of the couple's children, with Damien overseeing winemaking, Joseph tending the vineyards, and Caroline handling sales, while a fourth sibling, Pierre-Yves, left in 2005 to found his own well-regarded label. The Colins farm sustainably across Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, and Santenay, applying the same precision to Pinot Noir that has made their Chardonnays so admired.

This Santenay comes from old vines planted in 1910 on marl and limestone soils in the appellation, France's southernmost commune in the Côte de Beaune. The fruit is hand-harvested, fully destemmed, and fermented in temperature-controlled tanks before aging around fifteen months in oak barrels. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration, a hands-off approach meant to preserve the character of the old vines and the site.

The wine shows a bright ruby color with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and a touch of violet, backed by subtle earthy and mineral undertones. The palate is fresh and well balanced, with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity carrying through a clean, harmonious finish.

87-89 Points
"The 2024 Santenay Vieilles Vignes has fine lift on the nose with simple
red cherry and raspberry fruit, straightforward yet well defined. The
palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite open already and
fleshy with a nicely detailed smooth finish.
