King Estate was founded in 1991 by Ed King Jr. and his son Ed King III, who purchased a former six hundred acre cattle ranch southwest of Eugene and set out to build a serious wine estate in what was then largely untested Oregon terrain. The first vines went into the ground in 1992, and the King family harvested their first estate grown vintage just three years later. Today the property spans over a thousand acres and stands as the largest Biodynamic certified vineyard in North America, a distinction that reflects decades of steady investment in sustainable, organic farming rather than a recent trend.

This Pinot Gris draws on fruit from King Estate's own high elevation vineyard blocks, planted between eight hundred and twelve hundred feet, along with a handful of trusted growing partners across the valley. The 2024 growing season opened cool and slow before a run of summer heat pushed ripening along, landing close to an ideal, well balanced vintage. The wine is fermented entirely in stainless steel to protect its aromatic character, then rests on its lees for four months before bottling, a method chosen to preserve freshness over richness.

The glass opens with a mix of ripe yellow pear, grapefruit, and nectarine, layered with citrus blossom and a touch of ginger flower. The palate carries that same fruit forward, framed by crisp acidity and a clean, lingering finish. Pour it with spicy pad thai, grilled halibut, or a bright citrus salad.

91 Points
"Green pears, white peaches, white flowers and chalk on the nose. Pretty and balanced. The medium-bodied palate carries plenty of aromatics through the juicy middle and the clean, off-dry finish. From organically and biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink now."
