Craggy Range was founded in 1997 by Australian businessman Terry Peabody and Master of Wine Steve Smith, with the goal of crafting exceptional wines tied to New Zealand's most distinctive vineyard sites. Based in Hawke's Bay in the shadow of Te Mata Peak, the family-owned winery farms individual vineyard parcels separately, fermenting and maturing each on its own so every bottling reflects a specific place. Their Te Muna Road vineyard in Martinborough has become one of the label's signature sites for Sauvignon Blanc.

The vineyard sits on the lower terraces of Te Muna Road, just outside Martinborough, along the Huangarua River, where ancient alluvial soils layered with gravel, clay, and limestone meet a cool climate shaped by wide diurnal swings and steady wind. Grapes are partially hand harvested, mostly destemmed, and fermented in a combination of stainless steel and French oak barriques using partial wild yeast, then aged on lees for several months before bottling under screwcap.

The 2025 is fresh and expressive, with passionfruit pulp, lime leaf, and citrus notes layered over a fine, saline minerality. Bright acidity gives way to a textured, almost silky mid-palate. It suits raw or lightly cooked seafood, goat cheese, or a simple green salad with vinaigrette.

93 Points
"Intense Key lime, lemongrass and pear flavors are fleshy, bright and precise in this white, showing details of tangerine, kiwifruit and grapefruit, with sleek notes of saline and green tea, plus a hint of white pepper on a mouthwatering frame."
