Violin is the work of winemaker Will Hamilton, who founded the label in 2013 after more than a decade spent making wine across the Willamette Valley, including stints at Erath, Evening Land, and Walter Scott. As a small producer without an estate vineyard, Violin relies on a tight circle of grower partners, most of them dry-farmed and concentrated in the Eola-Amity Hills, an approach that keeps production intentionally limited.

This 2022 bottling draws from several sites across the valley, with the largest share coming from young and mature high-density plantings at Witness Tree, alongside fruit from Sojeau, Koosah Farm, Sylvia's, and the newly added X-Omni Vineyard, plus a small portion from a coastal foothill grower near Yamhill-Carlton. The 2022 growing season ran late, so barrel aging finished sooner than usual, with the final blend assembled in December and given six weeks in stainless steel to come together before bottling. Extended lees contact and time in impactful oak helped soften and integrate the vintage's naturally firm structure.

The wine bursts with fresh orchard fruit, berries, and floral aromatics, carried by juicy, vibrant tannins that give the palate a lively crunch. Notes of strawberry, cranberry, and violet layer over a deeper current of cassis and licorice. Pour it with grilled salmon, a wild mushroom tart, or aged Gruyère.

92 Points
"Wild and woodsy, the 2022 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley bursts from the glass with an enticing mix of wild berries, pine shavings, rubbed sage and a dusting of spice. This is rounded in feel, with a balanced inner sweetness and crisp red fruits that flow across a tension-building brisk acidity. Pleasantly chewy and exceptionally long, the 2022 leaves a sweet-and-sour sensation that keeps this taster looking back at the glass for more."
