2022 Weinbach - Sylvaner (750ml)

Domaine Weinbach is one of Alsace's most storied estates, its name taken from the small stream that runs through the property, established in 1612 by Capuchin monks at the foot of the Schlossberg hill. The estate spans just over 26 hectares, and the Capuchin monks first produced wine here in the early 17th century on the historic Clos des Capucins, a five-hectare plot enclosed by walls. The Faller family has owned the property since 1898, and it is now led by Catherine Faller alongside her sons Eddy and Théo, continuing the family's long-standing commitment to organic and biodynamic farming.

This Sylvaner Réserve comes from the Clos des Capucins vineyard itself. The 2022 vintage shows a more golden-fruited style than usual, with a firm backbone of acidity and notes of waxed apple carrying through the finish. It comes from an old-vine parcel, raised for ten months in traditional, neutral foudre barrels.

Aromas of red berries, particularly strawberry, mingle with white-fleshed fruit, greeting the nose with real freshness and boldness on the palate. This is a fruit-forward wine with lovely consistency and a fine, long finish.

It pairs beautifully with oysters, delicate starters, or chicken with garden vegetables, and is just as enjoyable on its own as a summer sipper.
