2019 Cousino Macul Finis Terrae (750ml)
Chilean classic that has stood the test of time — and the 2019 vintage marks the wine's 30th anniversary with a quietly triumphant release.
Vinous awarded 92 Points to the 2019 Finis Terrae, calling it complex on the nose with hints of blackberry, cassis, camphor, olive, and subtle oak aging — elegant, flavorful, and structured, with grip and lightly grainy tannins, and a drinking window extending to 2035.
Founded in 1856, Cousiño-Macul is the only 19th century vineyard in Chile that remains in the hands of the original founding family — a living testament to Chilean wine history and one of the great institutions of Maipo Valley winemaking.
The 2019 Finis Terrae is composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and 13% Syrah sourced from Alto Maipo — a blend created through hundreds of tasting combinations to find the ideal balance of fruit, acidity, tannins, alcohol, and oak — aged 15 months in 75% new and 25% second-use French oak barrels.
As Patricio Tapia of Descorchados so memorably described the Finis Terrae across vintages, it is a photograph of the house wines — the earthy and herbal aromas that result from aging, notes of ripe and candied red fruits, and that layer of tannins that is so soft yet so fine.
You have before you a Chilean classic.
Deep cherry in color with an intense nose of red and dark fruit, eucalyptus, clove, and subtle spice, leading to a medium-full bodied palate of silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, cherry-driven finish of real elegance and precision
