2021 Bodegas Lan - Tempranillo Rioja Crianza (750ml)

Founded in 1972, Bodegas LAN takes its name from the initials of the three provinces that historically formed the Rioja region: Logroño, Alava, and Navarra. The winery built its reputation on consistent, value-driven Rioja while also developing an ambitious premium tier anchored by its Viña Lanciano vineyard, a striking 72-hectare estate set along a natural bend in the Ebro River. LAN was also an early pioneer of hybrid oak aging, a technique that has become a signature of its style.

This Crianza is made mostly from Tempranillo with a small addition of Mazuelo, sourced from vineyards across Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa on chalky clay soils. After destemming, the grapes ferment in stainless steel with about two weeks of skin contact to build color and structure. The wine then ages in hybrid barrels combining French oak heads with American oak staves, followed by further rounding in bottle before release, a process that softens the tannins while adding gentle spice.

The nose shows red fruit including strawberry, raspberry, and cherry, layered with floral notes, vanilla, and a touch of cinnamon. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied, with bright acidity and silky tannins leading into a long, well-balanced finish. It pairs nicely with grilled lamb chops, roasted vegetables, or a charcuterie board.
