2018 El Enemigo - Cabernet Franc Gualtallary Gran Enemigo Chayaces
Made by acclaimed winemaker Alejandro Vigil, this single-vineyard bottling comes from younger vines planted in 2004 at The Vines of Mendoza complex in Tunuyán, 1,100 meters up in the Uco Valley, a notably higher elevation than El Enemigo's more classical Gualtallary sites. A blend of Cabernet Franc with 15% Malbec interplanted directly in the vineyard, fermented with indigenous yeasts, roughly 50% whole clusters, and aged 18 months in old oak foudres. Expect a nose of blueberry, blackcurrant, hot stones, tobacco leaf, dried lavender, walnut, and cracked pepper, moving into a medium-to-full-bodied palate with firm, fine-grained tannins and a dark, mineral character. Solid, compact, and structured, finishing firm and savory. A genuinely serious, site-specific expression from one of Argentina's most acclaimed modern producers.
