Distillerie Berta was founded in 1947 by Paolo Berta in the heart of Monferrato, Piedmont, and remains a family-run operation now guided by the third generation. The distillery built its reputation on selecting exceptional pomace from top local wine producers and transforming it into elegant spirits through discontinuous distillation in traditional copper pot stills, an approach that has made Berta one of the most respected names in Italian grappa.

This bottling, Bric del Gaian, is distilled entirely from Moscato pomace sourced from vineyards around La Morra and Monforte d'Alba in the Barolo zone. Following distillation, the spirit is aged for eight years across various types of wood, some casks are new French oak, a long maturation that gradually transforms the grappa from its original bright and floral character into something deeper and more complex, taking on an amber-to-gold hue in the process.

The result is rich and enveloping, with a complex bouquet built around clary sage, forest berries, grapefruit zest, and vanilla. On the palate it turns silky and long, with the fruit and spice carrying through to a lingering finish. It pairs especially well with sharp aged cheeses, served neat.
