2016 Grasso, Fratelli - Barbaresco Giacosa Spessa
Sourced from the Giacosa vineyard, historically known as Bricco Spessa before an official 2008 renaming (Grasso kept "Spessa" on the label as a nod to the original name). The site's steep pitch gives this bottling more richness and structural power than a typical Barbaresco. Fermented on the skins for over 20 days, then aged 18 to 24 months in large, decades-old Slovenian oak botti with a small portion in French barrique, followed by additional tank aging before release, a minimum of 4 to 5 years total before bottling. Expect classic Nebbiolo character: dark cherry and tart red fruit framed by firm, structured tannins and bright acidity. A serious, traditionally made Barbaresco built for the cellar.
