The 2019 ForteMasso Barolo Castelletto is a 100% Nebbiolo expression from the Barolo DOCG, sourced from the Castelletto vineyard sector known for yielding reds with pronounced aromatic finesse and restrained power. The 2019 growing season delivered steady heat and timely rainfall, allowing Nebbiolo grapes to reach full polyphenolic maturity while maintaining crisp malic acidity. This climatic balance produces a wine that feels immediate upon opening yet retains the structural framework necessary for extended cellaring.

Aromatically, the 2019 releases dried rose, crushed violet, black cherry, and dark plum, layered with subtle accents of tar, licorice root, and wet limestone. The palate is medium to full-bodied, carried by a dense network of velvety tannins and bright, linear acidity. Unlike heavier Barolo bottlings, the Castelletto origin typically imparts a lifted, soil-driven elegance that makes the wine exceptionally versatile at table. Tertiary profiles of dried tobacco, forest floor, and cedar will emerge gradually with cellaring, projecting a peak drinking window extending through 2036.

This red performs best alongside dishes rich in collagen and earthy depth. Recommended accompaniments include slow-braised wild boar ragù, agnolotti del plin, porcini mushroom risotto, roast duck breast, and hard-aged cheeses like Castelmagno or mature Pecorino Toscano.

Serve chilled to 16–18°C (60–65°F). Open and decant for 45 to 60 minutes before pouring to let the fruit unfurl and the young tannins settle. Store unopened bottles horizontally in a stable 12–14°C environment away from direct light and vibration.

90 Points
"The wine's aroma bursts out of the glass with dark red fruits, complemented by an array of spices, revealing the layered complexity of the vintage. On the palate, it is plush and generous, featuring a ripe cherry heart that transitions into a backdrop of sturdy, commanding tannins"
