Bottled in the BaroloDOC zone of Piedmont, Italy, the 2020 Einaudi Barolo Ludo is a 100% Nebbiolo wine that showcases the structure, length, and aging potential typical of the appellation. Produced from selected vineyard blocks across the Langhe hills, the must undergoes native fermentation and matures in large neutral Slavonian oak casks for roughly four years. This extended maturation allows the wine’s primary fruit to integrate with secondary earthy complexities while retaining the vintage’s favorable temperature balance between ripeness and acidity.

Tasting Notes

The nose delivers classic Nebbiolo expressions of dried strawberry, leather, and cedar, layered with floral notes of rosemary and violets. On the palate, firm yet refined tannins support a medium-bodied frame marked by dried cherry, tobacco, wet stone, and a subtle bitter-almond hint. The finish is dry, lengthy, and chalky, echoing the calcareous marl subsoil found throughout much of the Barolo cru system.

Suggested Foods

Aerate the wine thirty minutes before pouring and serve at 60–64°F (15–18°C). Its pronounced acidity and elevated tannins make it exceptionally compatible with rich, slow-cooked proteins and starches. Recommended pairings include braised lamb shanks, tajarin pasta with brown butter and sage, porcini mushroom risotto, wild boar ragù, and aged Piave Vecchio or semi-hard pecorino cheeses.

93 Points
"The Poderi Luigi Einaudi 2020 Barolo Ludo shows classic Nebbiolo aromas of roses and tar that are fleshed out in this case by redcurrant and cranberry. The fruit is bright and lively, not overripe, as we see in many other wines from this vintage, with a touch of something spicy like saffron or aniseed. It shows nice overall balance with good acidity."
