Giuseppe Nada farms organically in Treiso, the highest village in the Barbaresco zone, where the family has worked the same steep hillside since 1900. Enrico Nada, a trained enologist, has made the wines since 2008, while his parents tend the vineyards and his sister Barbara manages the business. The estate holds two historic crus, Casot and Marcarini, and keeps to traditional cellar methods.

Casmar Riserva is made only in strong vintages, and its name joins Casot and Marcarini. The cuvée began with the short 2016 crop, when Enrico blended the best fruit from the estate’s oldest vines, mostly planted in 1960 in Casot and in the 1970s in Marcarini. The Nebbiolo ferments spontaneously in stainless steel with a long maceration, then ages about four years in large oak botti and at least six months in bottle. Production is very small, at most a few thousand bottles.

Cherry and raspberry lead, with rose petal, white pepper, and a mineral, iron-like edge, plus savory herbs and a hint of leather. The palate is firmly structured, with fine, drying tannins and lively acidity, and the fruit lingers through a long finish.
