The Nada family has farmed in Treiso, one of the villages of the Barbaresco zone, since Antonio Nada bought a hillside vineyard, orchard, and house there in 1900. That purchase, from a member of the Gaja family, became the Casot cru. Estate bottling began in 1964, and today Enrico Nada oversees the cellar while his parents Giuseppe and Nella tend the vines. Farming is organic, and the winemaking is low-intervention.

The 2023 Dolcetto d’Alba is made entirely from Dolcetto grown in the Casot cru, a site usually given to Nebbiolo, on sandy alluvial soils. Production is tiny, around 300 cases a year. The estate’s reds ferment spontaneously, and this Dolcetto is fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve its fresh, pure fruit.

Black cherry, plum, and blueberry lead the nose, with violets, a touch of white pepper, and a hint of almond. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy, with soft tannins and moderate acidity carrying flavors of black cherry, blackberry, and plum. A faintly bitter almond note, typical of Dolcetto, appears on a clean, lightly earthy finish.
