Mazzetti Grappa di Barbera Grappa 700ml
Mazzetti d'Altavilla has distilled grape marc exclusively from Piedmontese vineyards since 1846, making it one of Italy's oldest grappa producers. Now led by the seventh generation of the founding family, the distillery is based in Altavilla Monferrato and works with pomace from fifteen distinct Piedmont vineyards, distilling each separately to preserve the individual character of every grape variety, including the region's most celebrated reds.
This grappa is made from Barbera pomace, a grape considered valuable in Piedmont since as early as the thirteenth century. The thick red skins are distilled to capture their naturally intense, fruit-forward character, then the spirit rests in oak barrels for two to five years, allowing it to develop greater depth and complexity than an unaged grappa while still reflecting the grape's origins. This aging process earned the bottling a gold medal in Bordeaux in 2001, the only one awarded to a grappa that year.
The nose is generous, rich, and distinctly varietal, while the palate is full-bodied and tannic, layered with plum and blackberry fruit alongside spice notes of licorice, vanilla, and tobacco, along with a lingering hint of wild rose. It finishes warm and persistent, rewarding slow sipping after a meal.
