Mazzetti d'Altavilla has distilled grape marc from Piedmont's finest vineyards since 1846, making it one of Italy's oldest continuously operating grappa houses. Now run by the seventh generation of the Mazzetti family, the distillery is based in Altavilla Monferrato and works exclusively with pomace sourced from the region's noblest grapes, including those grown for Barolo and Barbaresco. This close tie to local terroir remains central to the company's approach, with each of fifteen distinct Piedmontese vineyards distilled separately to preserve its individual character.

This grappa is produced entirely from Nebbiolo skins left over from Barolo winemaking. Rather than being bottled young, the distillate rests in oak barrels for two to five years, a long aging period that gradually transforms its structure and deepens its complexity well beyond that of a typical unaged grappa. The extended time in wood also tempers the intensity of the raw spirit, allowing tannin and oak character to fully integrate.

The result is full-bodied and rich, with a tannic backbone supporting layers of floral and fruity aromatics alongside warm spice notes of licorice, vanilla, and tobacco. It makes an excellent after-dinner pour alongside dried fruit or simple pastries.
