The Marquis d'Angerville estate has been synonymous with Volnay for over two centuries, and Caillerets is one of its most refined premier crus, farmed biodynamically from vines planted in 2000. The 2022 shows a touch more amplitude than the domaine's Fremiets, with pencil-shaving minerality layered under a carapace of red fruit and an extra degree of class on the nose — young rose petals over red berries. Medium-bodied with a fine grip on the entry, slightly edgy tannins and a hint of nori infusing the dark berry fruit, it closes on a long, saline finish that pulls you back for another sip. A wine that rewards patience and returns the range to form after the 2021 frosts.
