2023 Lauverjat - Sancerre Rouge Moulin Vrilleres (750ml)
The Lauverjat family has farmed in Sancerre for generations, based in the small village of Sury-en-Vaux. The estate is still known locally as Moulin des Vrillères, named for the mill the family once operated along the Belaine, a small stream running past the property. Today Christian and Karine Lauverjat run the domaine together, joined in 2019 by their son Kevin, while daughter Suzie manages the family's wine shop in the town of Sancerre.
This red Sancerre is made entirely from Pinot Noir, grown across parcels in Sury-en-Vaux and neighboring Sainte-Gemme-en-Sancerrois. The appellation's cooler climate, set apart from Burgundy, tends to produce reds that are lighter in color and body but full of delicacy and finesse. Fermentation and aging take place in large wooden conical tanks, and the wine passes through a gentle clay filtration designed to preserve its natural texture and character without stripping away nuance.
The 2023 shows a pale, translucent color with a lifted, aromatic nose of red fruit. On the palate it is soft and pure, with supple tannins and a concentrated, harmonious feel that carries through to a long, fresh finish. Its light frame and bright acidity make it a natural match for roasted duck, charcuterie, or mild, soft cheeses.
