Ramos Pinto was founded in 1880 by Adriano Ramos Pinto, whose enterprising approach to marketing and quality helped establish the house's reputation both in Portugal and across South America, particularly Brazil, where the brand built lasting loyalty in the early twentieth century. The house became part of the Roederer Group in 1990, which has preserved its identity while extending its reach internationally. Ramos Pinto has long been associated with meticulous attention to the Douro Demarcated Region, and the estate continues to move toward organic farming and greater biodiversity in its vineyards as part of a broader environmental commitment.

The 30 Year Old Tawny is sourced from estate vineyards in some of the best production zones of the Douro, with grapes traditionally foot-trodden and fermented in granite lagares before fortification with grape spirit halts fermentation and locks in sweetness. The finished wine is a blend of lots aged an average of three decades in oak casks in the cool cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, drawing on reserves that range from roughly nine to several decades old to keep the house style consistent from release to release. This patient cask aging, rather than a single vintage, is what gives tawny port its characteristic amber-garnet hue and softened tannin structure.

The wine pours a warm old-gold amber with garnet highlights, opening into aromas of dried fruit, toasted hazelnut, and vanilla that give way to cinnamon and cocoa on swirling. On the palate it is silky and layered, offering ripe fig, orange peel, and honeyed nuttiness balanced by a bright thread of acidity that keeps the finish long rather than cloying. It makes an excellent partner for aged Gouda or other firm cheeses, roasted almonds, or a simple plate of dark chocolate.

93 Points
"Suave and polished in feel, with hazelnut cream and pecan accents draped over a core of mulled cherry and dried currant flavors. Warm baking spices echo on the finish, which lingers steadily. Drink now. 125 cases imported."
