NV Ramos Pinto - Porto 30 Year Old Tawny
Ramos Pinto was founded in 1880 by Adriano Ramos Pinto, who built the house's early reputation through inventive marketing and a strong push into the Brazilian market, at a time when most Port houses focused almost entirely on Britain. The company went on to acquire several notable estates within the Douro's best zones, and it remains particularly recognized today for its long-aged tawny Ports, with this 30 Year Old standing as its most distinguished bottling in that category.
The wine draws on grapes grown across Ramos Pinto's own vineyards in the Douro, traditionally trodden by foot and fermented in granite lagares before fortification. The finished blend then rests in oak casks in the house's cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia for an average of thirty years, drawing together wines of varying ages to achieve the complexity and consistency the label is known for.
The color is a bright tawny with orange tones, showing the faint greenish halo typical of long cask aging. Aromas of vanilla, dried fruit, and toasted nuts open the glass, with cinnamon and cocoa emerging on agitation. The palate is fresh and delicate despite its age, layering almond and hazelnut through a long, graceful finish. Enjoy on its own, or with buttery shortbread or aged Gouda.
