2022 Coquard Loison Fleurot - Bourgogne Rouge (750ml)

Based in Flagey-Échezeaux, Domaine Coquard-Loison-Fleurot spent generations as a grape grower whose wines turned up even in Beaune supermarkets before reinventing itself as a serious Côte de Nuits address. Winemaker Thomas Collardot, in place since 2010, and commercial director Claire Fleurot now oversee about nine hectares that include grand cru parcels in Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Charmes-Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Échezeaux, and Grands-Échezeaux.

This Bourgogne Rouge comes from vineyards in Flagey-Échezeaux, just below the Clos de Vougeot. In the ripe 2022 season the domaine harvested early, picking this parcel on September 3 at a generous 55 hectoliters per hectare. About half the fruit was fermented as whole bunches, and like all the domaine's wines, it was aged roughly 18 months in oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Bright purple in the glass, it offers pure raspberry, wild strawberry, and assorted red berries with a subtle touch of earth. The middleweight palate is fresh and energetic, with a silky texture and lifting acidity that carry into a crisp, gently dusty finish. It is a joyful, easy-drinking red for grilled Toulouse sausages or a croque monsieur.
