NV Fonseca - Porto Bin 27 Finest Reserve Port

Fonseca was established in 1815 and sits within the Fladgate Partnership, alongside Taylor Fladgate and Croft, placing it firmly among the first rank of Vintage Port houses. Bin 27 began life as an in-house wine, blended for the family's own table more than a century ago, and it was not released commercially until 1972. It draws primarily on fruit from Fonseca's own quintas in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior, giving it an unusual consistency of style from one bottling to the next.

The blend centers on Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca, selected specifically for depth of color and generous fruit character. Rather than the decades of bottle aging a true Vintage Port demands, Bin 27 spends around four years resting in large wood vats before bottling, arriving on the shelf already balanced and ready to drink straight from the bottle, without decanting.

The wine pours a deep, youthful ruby and opens with an intense, fruit-driven nose of blackberry, cassis, cherry, and plum threaded with spice. On the palate it is full-bodied and round, its velvety texture held together by firm, mouth-filling tannins, with juicy black fruit carrying through into a rich, lingering finish. It pairs well with crusty bread and a ripe, soft cheese, dark chocolate, or roasted meats.
