NV Presidential - Porto Ruby Port (750ml)

Presidential is a brand of C. da Silva, a Port house founded in 1862 in Vila Nova de Gaia under the name Corrêa Ribeiro e Filhos. The company took its present name in the early twentieth century when Clemente da Silva came into ownership through marriage, and the house carries a long history as a supplier to the Portuguese royal household. Alongside its better-known Dalva label, C. da Silva has built Presidential into an accessible, widely distributed entry point into traditional Port styles.

The wine is made from classic Douro red varieties, chiefly Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Franca, grown in the Douro Valley and vinified by traditional methods before fermentation is stopped with the addition of grape spirit. It is then aged in large oak vats rather than small barrels, a choice meant to preserve fresh fruit character and youthful color rather than pushing the wine toward an oxidative style.

The result is a classic deep ruby Port with vibrant aromas of ripe red fruit, plum, and a touch of spice. On the palate it is smooth and velvety, balancing natural sweetness against enough freshness to keep it from feeling heavy, and it finishes with a soft, harmonious note rather than the fierce grip of a younger, less polished Ruby. It pairs nicely with roasted figs and blue cheese, dark chocolate, or grilled sausage.
