1994 Château Latour, Pauillac, Bordeaux — Premier Grand Cru Classé

An atypically high percentage of Merlot (27%) in the final blend gives this vintage a sweeter, more fleshy texture than is typical for a young Latour. The wine opens with an opaque dark ruby/purple color and a backward, intense nose of walnut, cassis, and smoky pain grillé notes that build beautifully in the glass. Full-bodied, powerful, and layered, with firm tannins that carry no bitterness or astringency — the superb purity, fabulous precision, and remarkable length suggest exceptional longevity. Now showing beautifully with ripe fruit, truffles, and incredible concentration, this wine offers sophistication, a strong structure, and an extremely long, riveting finish. A rare opportunity to own a mature bottle from one of Bordeaux's most storied estates.

94 Points
"Drunk from magnum, the 1994 Latour is showing brilliantly, bursting with aromas of dark fruits, English walnuts, cigar wrapper, loamy soil and woodsmoke. Medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, it's layered and concentrated, with sweet tannins, succulent acids and a long, sapid finish. The wine of the vintage in Bordeaux, I just wish I owned a case."
