Domaine Huet was founded in 1928 by Victor Huët, a Parisian bistro owner who resettled in Vouvray after the First World War and purchased the estate's first vineyard, Le Haut-Lieu. His son Gaston later added two more prime sites on the Première Côte, Le Mont in 1957 and Clos du Bourg in 1963, establishing the three vineyards that remain the heart of the domaine today. Gaston's son-in-law Noël Pinguet joined in 1971, and together they cemented Huet's reputation as the standard bearer for age-worthy Chenin Blanc, farming biodynamically since 1990 under the continued guidance of winemaker Jean-Bernard Berthomé.

Clos du Bourg is an ancient walled vineyard of six hectares, prized for the shallowest and stoniest soils among the estate's three parcels, with limestone rich clay resting close to the surface. The vines are farmed biodynamically and harvested entirely by hand, with fermentation taking place in a mix of large old oak demi-muids and stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Malolactic fermentation is never encouraged here, preserving natural malic acid that gives Huet's wines their notable capacity to age.

This demi-sec shows a bouquet of ripe pear, mango, and honeycomb, layered with brine, crushed flint, and a whisper of bitter almond skin. The palate is full bodied and voluptuous, balanced by refreshing acidity and a subtle brioche note on the finish. Its richness and structure pair beautifully with foie gras, roasted duck, or a firm blue cheese.

94 Points
"The 2022 Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec is round and appealing, akin to a cozy

night in with your slippers on; there's flesh and succulence, but it retains

its shape and a sense of lightness on its feet. The ripeness of white stone

fruit reminds me of nectarine and a heady floral character reminiscent of

honeysuckle, even verging jasmine. And yet, it shows its pedigree in its fine

texture and line. (RS 17.5g/L)
