2014 Lopez de Heredia - Rioja Vina Bosconia Reserva (750ml)

Founded in 1877 by Rafael López de Heredia, this Haro estate is the oldest winery in town and one of the first three established in Rioja. Still family-run nearly a century and a half later, López de Heredia farms its own vineyards exclusively, including Tondonia, Cubillo, Gravonia, and Bosconia, and remains committed to natural yeasts, unfiltered bottling, and aging periods that stretch well beyond what regional rules require.

Viña Bosconia comes from the family's El Bosque vineyard, a clay-rich site near the winery that tends to produce fuller, more structured wines than the estate's other parcels. The blend leans on Tempranillo, filled out with small portions of Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo, all fermented together in old oak vats with the winery's own resident yeasts. The wine then matures for no less than five years in neutral American oak barrels crafted in-house before release.

The color is a deep garnet. Aromas of cassis, cola, and wild blackberry mingle with savory notes of graphite, anise, and earth. The palate is youthful and smooth despite its age, with well-integrated tannins and a long finish of dark fruit and anisette. Pair it with braised beef cheeks, roast partridge, or aged Idiazábal cheese.
