Château Grand Mayne is located to the west of Saint-Émilion, at the foot of the plateau. The vineyard spans two distinct terroirs: clay and limestone soils on the hillsides (reaching 55 meters elevation, bordering Château Beau-Séjour Bécot), and sand over clay at the base of the slopes. The estate is around 15 hectares, planted with 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaking

Vinification takes place in a combination of wooden vats and stainless-steel tanks, with malolactic fermentation in barrels. The wine is aged in 70–80% new French oak for an average of 18 months

Tasting Notes

The nose is perfumed, intense and full of character — dried violets, cloves, blackberries, chocolate cherries, tobacco leaves and black cherry. The palate is full-bodied with firm, fine, powdery tannins that are mouth-coating and expansive, with sweet spice to close.

On the nose there's excellent energy with bright, upfront fruit alongside liquorice and dark chocolate edges that give texture and depth, with freshness throughout. It just needs time to soften.

Jeb Dunnuck Points
"The 2019 Château Grand Mayne showed brilliantly. Very much in the more elegant, classic style of the vintage, it's medium to full-bodied and straight and focused on the palate, yet brings plenty of mid-palate depth as well as ripe, polished tannins. Black cherries, new leather, dried herbs, and Asian spice notes all define the bouquet, and this is going to benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decades."
