2020 Chateau Latour Martillac - Pessac
Owned by the Kressmann family, Latour-Martillac takes its name from the ancient tower still standing in the château's courtyard, the last remnant of a 12th-century fort built by the ancestors of Montesquieu. The 2020 shows an impressive, engaging bouquet of blackberry, incense, and graphite with faint touches of black olive, harmonious and well-defined. Medium-bodied on the palate with fine-grained tannins, well-balanced, quite saline, and finishing long and poised. Quintessentially Pessac-Léognan, and widely regarded as one of the appellation's dark horses in an outstanding vintage, with a genuinely bright future ahead.
