Domaine du Cayron’s 2022 Gigondas captures the estate’s traditional Grenache-dominant style, sourced from ancient vines rooted in rocky limestone and clay soils beneath the Dentelles de Montmirail. This vintage presents a classic, terroir-driven expression that is deep, earthy, and warmly spiced.

On the palate, it is full-bodied and velvety, with firm but integrated tannins that carry generous fruit with grace. Aromas unfold into ripe black cherry layered with garrigue, dried lavender, and a savory olive tapenade note that speaks unmistakably of southern Rhône character. The wine’s rustic charm remains authentic and soulful, while its structure invites aging and evolving complexity.

  • Appearance: deep ruby to garnet core with a bright, inviting sheen.
  • Aroma: ripe black cherry, herbal garrigue, dried lavender, and olive tapenade hints.
  • Palate: full-bodied and smooth, with mineral-brushed acidity, refined tannins, and a long, spicy finish.
  • Style and aging: traditional Gigondas that rewards decanting now or over time in the cellar.

Food pairings: This robust yet refined wine stands up to hearty Provençal dishes and beyond. Pair it with roasted lamb rubbed with garlic and herbs, braised beef or venison stews, herb-crusted pork, or grilled sausages. It also shines with aged cheeses such as Pecorino, Comté, or gouda after a little chestnut honey and olives for a regional touch.

"The 2022 Gigondas is gorgeous, bundling intense orange blossom, licorice,

ripe strawberry, leafy tones and a touch of graphite on the aromatic

composition. Tightly structured by ripe tannins and balanced by a lifting

freshness, the full-bodied 2022 requires at least four more years in a cool

cellar to mellow. That said, it’s an outstanding Gigondas worth seeking out.

"The 2022 Gigondas checks in as 78% Grenache, 14% Syrah, and the rest Cinsault and Mourvèdre, raised in foudres, with the Syrah in demi-muids. It's a killer effort offering beautiful darker fruits supported by some meaty, garrigue, and iron-like nuances. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, gamey, exotic, balanced Gigondas that's just about overflowing with character. I love it today, yet it has another 10-12 years of prime drinking."
